The immune system (from the Latin immunis = free, untouched) is a complex system of molecules and cells that have the capacity to distinguish between ‘self’ and ‘other’ or between ‘dangerous’ and ‘harmless’. It is responsible for warding off threats to the body. These threats can include bacteria, viruses, fungal infestations, single-celled or multicellular organisms, proteins foreign to the body or the body’s own degenerate cells.
The state of the immune system plays a significant part in determining whether an infection is actually going to result in the onset of an illness, and if it does, how serious the illness is likely to be. The different functional processes within the highly complex immune system are still to a large extent unresearched. This being the case, particular importance attaches to a preparation which experience has shown to have beneficial effects on the immune system.
Medicaments with a strengthening effect on the cell lines and chemical systems responsible for the body’s immune defences have long been a fixed variable in Cesra’s pharmaceutical range. From an early stage immune stimulants based on medicinal plants made up an important part of our assortment: Lymphozil® lozenges and Lymphozil® pro already contain in germ, as it were, the experience of further successful developments.
