tradition, perspective, responsibility
Naturally the medicaments we develop, manufacture and market are the foundation of our business. At the same time, Cesra is fundamentally different from other manufacturers of pharmaceuticals.

Our motto: Medicine and Humanity
With its guiding vision of ‘Medicine and Humanity’, Cesra Arzneimittel has given thought to what makes a difference to us on the most inward level, whether as a company or an individual – the deliberate focusing of all our activities on a higher-order humanitarian goal.
This attitude goes back to the fundamental principles of the Redel Stiftung [Redel Foundation]. The Foundation is still not widely known, but it is anything but inactive. For more than 17 years the Redel Foundation has been helping those in need, perhaps in the background, but with involvement in more than 30 projects ranging from Romania to Korea and Peru. In other words – this represents a wealth of experience which fully deserves your support!
The Redel Foundation counts on Cesra, and the profits that Cesra makes go to the support of this good cause. So it is good that Cesra has recourse to powerful preparations that have proved their reliability for years, preparations above all that are based on natural ingredients, whose intrinsic qualities enhance the attractiveness of the product. In the last resort, the use of Cesra’s medicaments has the same humanitarian effect as a charitable donation.
For all members of staff at Cesra – from work experience students to the highest levels of management – the motto ‘Medicine and Humanity’ is a daily incentive and an outstandingly positive motivation.
Cesra as a company of the Redel Foundation
Based on his knowledge of the multifarious properties of plants, as well as insights derived from the traditional use of medicinal plants for the relief of complaints, Cesra’s founder Julius Redel developed formulations for numerous plant-based pharmaceutical agents.
After the death of Julius Redel, his son, Dr. Hans-Werner Redel, founded the Redel Foundation and endowed it with his inheritance. After the death of Helene Redel, the widow of Julius Redel, in 1994 the other parts of the company were likewise incorporated in the Redel Foundation. In keeping with the articles of association, all profits made by the Foundation are used for charitable purposes, i.e. for the support of people in need of help as a result of catastrophes, natural disasters or wars.
‘Helping naturally’ was the motto of Julius Redel and is still today – in a time-honoured tradition – the leitmotif and motivation of Cesra Arzneimittel, in both a medical and a social sense. The company belongs to the Foundation, and its profits are fully dedicated to this good cause – a unique phenomenon in Germany, which also finds expression in Cesra’s slogan ‘Medicine and Humanity’.
The history of the company starts in 1929, with the foundation of the Julius Redel Cesra-Arzneimittelfabrik GmbH & Co. [Julius Redel Cesra Pharmaceutical Works & Co. Ltd.] in Rastatt.
As early as 1936, ongoing development already made it necessary for the company to move to Baden-Baden, where more extensive production facilities were available.
Here again the space eventually proved inadequate, so a new building was erected in the Haueneberstein district. This was ready for occupation in the year 1964.
After the death of the company founder Julius Redel in 1983, the Redel family incorporated the company in a charitable foundation. Since 1988 the company has been working with the higher-order aim of fulfilling the foundation’s charitable vision. The Redel Foundation works to support people in acute need of help as a result of natural or man-made castastrophes. Projects have been supported ranging from Romania to Peru, from the Ukraine to the Baltic and beyond.
With an eye to ongoing further development, the company’s production facilities and administrative offices were completely modernised between 1994 and 1998 so as to conform to the highest modern standards. High-tech working procedures, and the latest version of EDP technology, now form the foundation of our quality-assured pharmaceutical production and our meticulous marketing of medicinal products.
Cesra: a modern company – with prospects!
Extensive development work, supreme quality and ultra-modern manufacturing methods ensuring consistently high standards have made Cesra an acknowledged specialist in the manufacture ofphytopharmaceutical medicaments. In Cesra’s view the future actually belongs to phytopharmaceuticals – medicaments, that is to say, of plant origin.
Our company stays closely in touch with the people who recommend and use our products. We see ongoing dialogue as essential. Those who recommend or prescribe Cesra’s medicinal products live in the same tricky and unpredictable environment, in health policy terms, as the manufacturers of pharmaceuticals. Only by closing ranks and standing shoulder to shoulder can we continue what Cesra has been doing for more than 70 years – working to find the best way of helping sick people. So Cesra engages in intensive dialogue with those working in the field, about medical, pharmaceutical and health policy issues. Prescribing physicians, in their turn, can count on Cesra to deliver top-quality phytopharmaceuticals, as well as excellent service and further training.
A business area of steadily increasing importance for us is the export of our products. We have close trading relations with Poland and the Baltic countries, and similar business links are currently being built up in other countries. In the Far East, China has long been one of the most important countries for our exports.
Cesra’s ultra-modern production facilities are also in demand with other manufacturers who do not produce their own preparations. Here Cesra offers its services as a contract manufacturer.
The company’s policy is dedicated to furthering the work of a charitable foundation. The profits it makes are channelled into projects for the alleviation of human suffering caused by natural or man-made catastrophes. Cesra traditionally lives up to this social aspiration from its position as a ‘small but beautiful’ pharmaceutical manufacturer. Cesra is the producer of premium phytopharmaceuticals of the very highest quality, and this will continue to be so in future. Our corporate policy is aimed at healthy growth. Our range of products is constantly being rounded out and extended. There may be innovations, wherever it makes therapeutic sense. But the supreme priority for us remains quality and service.
